Blistering jack-track genius lifted from a seemingly bottomless vault of Chicago house royalty/rarity. A recent wave of quintessential reissues springing out of virtually every corner of the world have aided in unearthing some of the more difficult-to-acquire dance classics---the once hidden treasures of legend past, mythologized without mercy (and we are no exception)---making them available once more, and for most of us, for the very first time. This second release in the “Warehouse Box Trax” reissue series features another re-edit/instrumental drum track from the elusive & mysterious JACKMASTER HATER---really a guise for tracks lifted off of the extensive & sourly sought after classic Chicago tapes of lore, and more than likely lifted in particular from the private arsenal of the great Ron Hardy. While the exact origins remain vague, the music, as usual, speaks for itself: “Your Love” in both it’s “unreleased” manifestations cuts the original Jamie Principle vocal into an all out assault of uncompromising analog percussive command, relying on the blistering snap of 909 kicks, deafeningly crisp high hats, & haunting, distant wails placed perfectly off beat, dissolving into the incoherent, noisy logic of it’s beat. An absolute monster exploiting the most sincere minimalism with it’s few but adeptly strong elements, “Your Love” doesn’t need overproduced extravaganzas to blow minds or rock parties: it’s a truly original formula that, as we can see here, we still have much to discover from. No wonder some many modern productions literally mimick the classic Chicago sound: it’s possibilities still escape us, though as of this week, perhaps a little less than before.
